Here is the official Motor City Sports Talk 2017 NFL Draft Mock Draft…please feel free to mock us, tell us were idiots because “(team) would NEVER take (player), moron.”
If you follow mock drafts from “experts” then some of these picks may look goofy, but that is the point, the “experts” do not know what teams rank which players higher than others. It only takes 1 team to take Bruce Irvin at the 15th pick to throw every mock draft out of wack…or the Vikings taking Christian Ponder way higher than any expert projected.
These guesses below were based on CBS, ESPN, SI & WalterFootball mock drafts, player rankings & some opinion & looking at what some beat writers for certain teams think their teams will do…
1 Cleveland – Myles Garrett DE TA&M
Most everyone beleives the Browns will go with Garrett here. The QB class is not considered ready to take over & Garett is considered a generational talent that is too good to pass up. Plus the Browns have another pick in the first round they can use on a QB if they want.
2 San Fran – Soloman Thomas DE Stanford
This pick could go a lot of different ways, SF needs help everywhere, but the Offensive Line class, the Tackles in particular are rumored to be not nearly as good as the previous few seasons. So, don’t expect the 49ers to go too far rogue here.
3 Chicago – Malik Hooker S OSU
Bears can use an anchor in the secondary. Hooker has the look to be a big time contributor for many years & would be a great addition to any team’s defense.
4 Jacksonville – Leonard Fornette RB LSU
The Jaguars have upgraded their defense over the past year plus and have a nice young WR group. Getting a playmaker like Fornette to add to the offense would help them continue to improve & get back to those amazing days they were led by Mark Brunell.
5 Tennessee – Mike Williams WR Clemson
Titans need WR help & Mike Williams is big, strong, athletic and has a proven track record in college with Clemson.
6 New York Jets – Kevin King CB Wash
In a draft with a lot of very good CBs, Kevin King is the best of the bunch & will be off the board first. Jets need to replace Derrelle Revis & do so. Or, they go with a QB that will be a bust because its the Jets & that is what they do.
7 Los Angeles Chargers – Forest Lamp G Western Kentucky
Not a deep draft for offensive line, but Chargers need help upfront & Lamp looks like he could be a perennial Pro Bowler.
8 Carolina – Ryan Ramczyk T Wisconsin
Carolina needs help up front as well, Cam Newton can’t keep getting beat up & needs to stay upright if they are going to ever get back to the Super Bowl. Ramczyk is a solid LT that should slot into to the line in Carolina for years to come.
9 Cincinnati – Rueben Foster LB Alabama
Best MLB in the draft. Character concerns could cause a bigger drop, but he led a very good Alabama defense & should be a force for whoever drafts him.
10 Buffalo – Corey Davis WR Western Michigan
Buffalo needs someone for Tyrod Taylor to throw to & Corey Davis is that person. A great route runner with fantastic hands, Davis had a great career at Western Michigan & should be a top 10 pick this year.
11 New Orleans – Marlon Humphry CB Alabama
New Orleans needs CB help almost every year. In a draft very deep with CBs every team I project a CB to could easily just wait, but Humphry is very good & a good fit in New Orleans.
12 Cleveland – Mitch Trubinsky QB UNC
Hey, look at that, a QB and it was Cleveland using a first round pick on one, but still didn’t have to first overall!!! Poor Mitch, what did he do to deserve this?
13 Arizona – Marcus Williams S Utah
Williams has a great abilty to find the football in the air. Would be a huge addition to the Arizona secondary with Patrick Peterson and Tyron Matthieu to form one of the best secondaries in the NFL.
14 Philadelphia – Marshon Lattimore CB OSU
More CBs drafted. Lattimore is 3rd off the board to the Eagles. They could wait or they could get a shut down CB and move on.
15 Indianapolis – Dalvin Cook RB FSU
Get someone to take the pressure off Andrew Luck. Cook could end up being a bust, he did not test well at the NFL Combine, but his game film shows a different story.
16 Baltimore – Derek Barnett Edge Tennessee
ProFootballFocus rnaks Barnett as the best draft eligble pass rusher from the right side. Baltimore has a history of getting guys like this than just letting them destroy QBs for years to come.
17 Washington – Haason Reddick LB Temple
Plugs into the middle of the Washington D and immediately makes them better. Too bad he can’t also find the team a new owner.
18 Tennessee – OJ Howard TE Alabama
This is the wildcard here. OJ Howard could go much higher, he is rated & thought of that highly. He is incredibly athletic for a big man, he can catch, run & blocks on the line better than most TEs in the past few draft classes. Tennessee would see a major upgrade around Marcus Mariotta if they are able to get Williams at 5th overall and Howard at 18.
19 Tampa Bay – Malik McDowell DI MSU
McDowell is an athletic freak but was rumored to be a bad apple at Michigan State. He was also reported to be one of the worst interviews at the NFL Combine. But, only so many teams will look at his size & strength and pass that over before someone bites. Tampa can let him be the ancor of their d-line next to another former Spartan, William Gholston.
20 Denver – Cam Robinson OT Alabama
Denver is looking for Tackle help, Cam Robinson is the best left on the board for them.
21 Detroit – Budda Baker S Washington
Rafael Bush went back to New Orleans, Miles Killebrew is great on 3rd down, but not a 3 down safety yet & Glover Quin is not getting younger. Baker plays at a very high speed & makes very quick decisions on the field, two great assets for the last line of defense.
I also considered DE Derek Rivers from Youngtowns State & Zach Cunningham here.
22 Miami – Duke Riley LB LSU
Next best LB available. Miami’s defense needs help.
23 New York Giants – Garrett Bolles OT Utah
Not a lot of talanted T’s in this draft mean that only the 3rd goes by the 23rd pick. But, Giants could use the help.
24 Oakland- Zach Cunningham LB Vanderbilt
Plenty of talent on offense in Oakland, need some assistance on the other side. Cunningham was a tackel machine in the SEC for the past two seasons.
25 Houston – Pat Mahomes QB Texas Tech
Pat Mahomes could be a nothing QB. But, from a few different QB evaluators I’ve read, Mahomes could end up being the best QB in this draft class. The Texans need a QB and they may have enough there to keep Mahomes on the bench for a good amount of time & let him ease into becoming an NFL QB.
26 Seattle – Taco Charlton DE UM
For some unknown reason, I feel like this is a perfect match.
27 Kansas City – Sidney Jones CB Wash
This is a steal for Kansas City. Jones could have been the top CB off the board if he didn’t tear his Achilles’ Tendon during Washington’s Pro Day. Jones has a good chance to come back from the injury & still be the dominant CB he was projected to be, before the devastating injury.
28 Dallas – David Njoku TE Miami
Some one has to replace Jason Witten. Why not Njoku, the 2nd best TE in a very deep TE class?
29 Green Bay – Gareon Conley CB OSU
More Corners! Or they could wait. Whatever.
30 Pittsburgh Josh Reynolds WR TA&M
Why is it so hard to find consistancy next to Antonio Brown in Pittsburgh? Reynolds is tall & fast & would compliment Brown exceptionally well. Probably will never be a #1 WR, but doesn’t need to be when Brown is on the other side.
31 Atlanta – Derek Rivers DE Youngstown ST
Rivers is the best of the non-FBS schools’ players. Look for him late in the first round, like here to Atlanta, or early in the 2nd round where teams are more likely to take a risk on a small school playmaker.
But, if the NFL has shown us anything, its that a not typical player (think Ziggy Ansah) can turn into a pretty good pass rusher pretty quickly.
32 New Orleans – Obi Melifonwu S Uconn
Pair Melifonwu with Humphry at the 11th pick & suddenly, New Orleans could slow down an opponents passing game!
