Breaking: Tigers Sign Torii Hunter

Danny Knobler and Ken Rosenthal are both reporting on Twitter that the Tigers have signed Torii Hunter.  Twitter has also run rampant with rumored contract details of 2 years/$26 Million for the former Tiger killer.

This is a nice signing for the Tigers and definitely makes them a better baseball team than in 2012, when they played in the World Series.Breaking: Tigers Sign Torii Hunter

Torii Hunter is a multiple Gold Glove winning outfielder, who immediately makes the Tigers outfield defense better.  With the infield defense questionable, having two guys like Austin Jackson and Hunter that can take away extra base hits routinely will certainly help the pitching staff.

In August Hunter made a few outstanding grabs in the cavernous Comerica Park outfield that robbed a few doubles from the Tigers.  Provided he can still make those plays, this alone improves the team.  But, having Hunter replace Brennan Boesch on the roster could be the piece needed to put the team over the top and win that World Series Mike Illitch so desperately wants.

I can see Hunter being slotted at #2 in the line up against left handed pitchers and 6th against right handed pitchers, protecting Victor Martinez, who protects Prince Fielder, who protects Miguel Cabrera.

If Hunter can in anyway repeat his 2012 for the Tigers they are in a fantastic position, with Martinez coming back to replace Delmon Young at DH and to secure some consistency and power from a corner outfield spot makes this team even more dangerous.

The Tigers could still resign Anibal Sanchez to stay in the rotation and retaining him, bringing in Hunter and letting Young go already make this team look like a World Series contender yet again.
