While the Lions and MSU football team are in shambles, both losing over the weekend, the Motor City did get some good news, with two wins from the Tigers and a few losses from the White Sox, they are now guaranteed at least a share of the division crown and at worst, play a game 163.
The Lions offense looks lost on the field, the special teams are the worst in football and the defense is still struggling to make the tackle on first opportunity.
Scott Linehan is calling the game like Barry Sanders is the running back, not a guy in his second career game back there. I understand wanting balance but they are pushing for the run way too much and getting away from what won them games last year, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson.
In the NFL only 2 kickoffs have been returned for touchdown’s this year, both of 105 yards against the Lions. Then in back to back weeks they have given up punt returns for TDs too. Something has to be done but change mid season usually does nothing. Maybe they just can’t let anyone try to return the ball against them ever again.
There will be a write up on the Spartans loss to Ohio State later today or tomorrow and other than know they lost, I can’t comment on the game because I didn’t watch. I do know they dropped out of the Top 25 and are now 3-2 on the year and 0-1 in B1G play and that isn’t a good start to a Rose Bowl year.
However there was a bright spot over the weekend, despite the bats being mostly quiet, the Tigers were still able to win 2 of 3 from the Twins and take complete control of the AL Central.
Justin Verlander was dominant on Saturday and Anibal Sanchez was again on Sunday. Jose Valverde actually got the Twins 1,2,3 on Sunday in a 1 run game when Prince Fielder hit a two run home run to provide the only offense.
The Tigers go to Kansas City tonight to try to wrap up the division with a win and then celebrate their asses off. But that will only be step one for this team, it’s World Series or bust for them.
